I need some laptop buying advice...?

As a high school senior, I'm in the middle of applying to colleges, looking for scholarships, etc. in anticipation of starting college next fall. While I've been doing all these college prerequisites, I have stumbled upon many websites and articles stating that laptops are a must-have for prospective college students. I myself have never owned a laptop before as I have always used the 2 desktops at home. Now, I'm starting to worry a little about getting the right laptop for me. So, I'm looking for laptops that fit my requirements (specified below). Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Also, if you don't mind, post the websites that you get your laptop information from. Thanks!

Personal Requirements:

-Budget is about $1000-$1100

-Battery life is semi-important, about 4 hours (avoid netbooks/minis)

-Memory is important, about 3-4 GB will do

-Style/look is important, especially the sleek and glossy design

-OS is important, preferably windows 7 (will not use vista)

-Graphics card/dedicated memory is semi-important, casual gaming such as sims 3

Those are the main requirements I'm looking for in a laptop. So in summary, I'm looking for a high performance laptop that will allow me to do all the word processing I need to do in college, play movies, listen to music, browse the web, and play games that would satisfy the moderate gamer.

On a side note, I'm wondering if I should buy the laptop online or try it out at a store first. Additionally, should I wait until Black Friday/Christmas for more deals? Lastly, how do coupons work? I've been on several sites that have coupon codes with a list of specs on a laptop. Does this mean I can't personalize a laptop if I apply a coupon and can only purchase the laptop with the given specs with the applied coupon?

Also, I would like to state that I have been doing research over laptops the past few days. I have learned that Dell laptops are horrible. HP laptops are pricey and breakdown. Lenovo laptops are not stylish but give you more bang for your buck. Toshiba laptops are great all around performers but are on the expensive side. For me, I really don't care which brand you recommend since this is my first time buying a laptop, but if you do have a suggestion about which brand is the best, please let me know. Alright, time to suggest away!I need some laptop buying advice...?
