APEX -- Kelley Davis and her family are in savings mode. The Apex mother works extra hours as a physical therapist, and she clipped coupons to save $70 during a recent trip to the grocery store.
So Davis was excited Friday when she had $400 cash to put in her account – until Augie, the family's 2-year-old Swiss mountain dog, gobbled up all the money.
Before her errands, Davis, 42, set the cash on her bedroom bureau, and Augie apparently helped himself.
So on Saturday, Davis took the dog for a long walk, and Augie did not disappoint.
Davis saw in his leavings pieces of the three $100 bills and five twenties. She took up a garden hose.
“Kids, get the colander!” she said, remembering the moment. “I'm out there panning for gold.”
The cash didn't endanger Augie, said Dr. Steve Marks, an associate professor of internal medicine and critical care at the N.C. State University Veterinary School. “Dogs will ingest almost anything if given the chance,” Marks said.
By Monday night, Davis had the remnants of $160. If she can find enough pieces, she hopes to reassemble some bills and see whether the bank will exchange them. Federal regulations say mutilated currency can be replaced if more than 50 percent of a bill is identifiable or if “the method of mutilation and supporting evidence demonstrates to the satisfaction of the Treasury” that the rest of the bill has been destroyed.
“Who knows if there's more coming or not,” she said. “We're anxiously waiting.”Should AIG employees who return their bonus money receive an autographed photo of Augie returning his?
That's some story! Thank you for sharing!
I suppose a picture of Augie returning the money would create a bit of a stress breaker.
That is hilarious sooo funny, and I really more will come away, due to the crunch.Should AIG employees who return their bonus money receive an autographed photo of Augie returning his?
is that what you'd call a dog with expensive tastes?
hey! wouldnt it be nice if your dog could do that with out eating it first?
Well if the government won't accept the remnants , she can always use it in crafts as Poop mache . . .
Great article! You know a picture of Augie just might help AIG give back some of that bonus money. lol After all, I kind of feel like we've been on a "poop watch" with AIG and other greedy money gobblers this past year :-)
I agree with Roxy...only I wish my dog would eat the electric bill :-) I would gladly take it to REMC so they could enjoy the poop watch too.
Your answer is yes.
My dog did this a few years back. One of my roommates won a football pool and the other roomie left it where the dog could get it. For some reason, he likes to chew up paper. I don't think he got his back.
Don't care what they say or do as long as they return the money.
Your idea seems very applicable!
What is AIG doing? They are taking someone elses money (exactly like Augie), eating it, and leaving us to attempt to clean what they send out the other end!
So perhaps a picture would be worth 1000 words. However, the picture might should be of the money Augie ATE just after Augie processed it and before it has been cleaned and returned to service!
It does give you hope that something pouring out the back side of AIG might be "recoverable"!
Yes and some used toilet paper.
